The Webster House is just a short walk from Bay City’s historic downtown, home to the largest antique center in Michigan and other unique and quaint shops. Be sure to bring a big appetite, as downtown boasts a diverse selection of food, from the dining on the riverfront at Bay City’s newest eatery, The Real Seafood Company as well as fine dining and drinks at Old City Hall. In the summer, take time to taste the delicious bounty of the Downtown Bay City Farmers Market. Our most upscale eatery, Costello’s Brazilian Steakhouse located on the waterfront is a gastronomical feast bring your hearty appetite, a wonderful venue for that special anniversary or birthday celebration. If there’s one thing Bay City is known for, it’s festivals. Our summers sizzle with nonstop happenings, including the world-class power boat races of River Roar, and the wonder of the Bay City Fireworks Festival, a three-day Fourth of July celebration featuring entertainment and some of the most spectacular fireworks in the nation. In 2025, the Tall Ships Challenge returns, with several of the majestic ships porting in Bay City. Want to hit the Saginaw Bay yourself? Head out for a sunset three-course dinner sail aboard the Appledore IV.

Summer is also a time to catch a unique experience in Bay City’s Carroll Park, just a few streets away from The Webster House in the heart of the Center Avenue historic district. The Bay City Independents Vintage Base Ball Club takes spectators back to how baseball was played in the 1800s, with vintage uniforms, no gloves and no fences. In the mood for some tunes? You can catch a summer concert in the city’s Wenonah Park or during Fridays at the Falls at the Third Street Waterfall Park.

The good times keep rolling all year long in Bay City, with plenty to do when the mercury drops. Around the holidays, put on your snow boots and head downtown for Sundays in the City, which runs the six Sundays leading up to Christmas and showcases all the unique businesses downtown. The Sleigh of Gifts and Festival of Wreaths feature a winter wonderland of holiday decorations, horse-drawn carriage rides, strolling carolers and holiday movies at the historic State Theatre. Also in the winter is the annual Shiver on the River Walleye Contest, a two-week walleye fishing tournament held on the Saginaw River.

Feel like taking in a little culture? Bay City has you covered. View exhibits of art from local and Michigan artists at Studio 23. Have an out-of-this-world experience at the Delta College Planetarium and Learning Center. Step back to the mid-1800s when Bay City’s lumber barons built stately mansions in the city’s historic districts. Get a look at some of the Midwest’s finest Victorian architecture during a walking historic tour.

How about a night at the theater? You can catch a production by the Bay City Players, Michigan’s oldest continuously operating community theater; enjoy a comedy act, musical performance and more at the State Theatre.

Frankenmuth Michigan

Things to do in Frankenmuth, Michigan

During your stay at The Webster House, you’re mere miles from the top tourist destination in the state – Frankenmuth: Michigan’s Little Bavaria. The city is home to Bronner’s CHRISTmas Wonderland, the world’s largest Christmas store.

Make a trip to Frankenmuth an all-day affair with one of the world-famous, family-style chicken dinners at Zehnder’s or the Bavarian Inn Restaurant, and then a trip to one of the city’s unique museums. Learn all about Little Bavaria at the Frankenmuth Historical Museum, which features a permanent collection of Frankenmuth and German-related artifacts. Michigan’s Own Military & Space Museum features a collection of military and space memorabilia.

Frankenmuth offers a shopping experience like no other, with diverse offerings that include the Frankenmuth Cheese Haus, the Frankenmuth Clock Company and many more.

Frankenmuth’s festivals are as plentiful as the chicken. A celebration of some sort is happening nearly weekly all year-round in the city. Annual festivals include Zehnder’s Snowfest, the World Expo of Beer, the Bavarian Festival and Oktoberfest. Be sure to get a different view of the city from the Cass River, with a paddleboat tour aboard the Bavarian Belle.

Dow Gardens

Things to do in Midland, Michigan

Midland, best known as the home of the Dow Chemical and Dow Corning companies, is packed with stuff to see and do during your stay at The Webster House. Midland is also home to the minor league baseball team the Great Lakes Loons, where seats to the game start as low as $6. The nearby Dow Gardens is home to a world-class botanical/horticultural garden, springtime butterfly festival and annual Christmas Walk. The Chippewa Nature Center features hiking, skiing and biking trails, Maple Syrup Day, Fall Harvest and Bio Blitz festivals and an 1870s Homestead Farm.

Opportunities to soak in culture are endless in Midland. At Northwood University, visit the Northwood Gallery and take in the fine arts in all media, unique jewelry, glass, pottery and fashion accessories. The Midland Center for the Arts features an art gallery and interactive museum of art, history and science, and is the home of the Midland Symphony Orchestra, Theatre Guild, Music Society and the Matrix:Midland festival, which brings to Midland nationally known performance groups, lecturers, scientists and performers. The Herbert D. Doan Midland County History Center features touring and Midland historical exhibits, maintains a collection of Midland artifacts and owns and operates the Victorian-era Bradley Home and the H.H. Dow Historical Museum, which tells the story of the founding of the Dow Chemical Company.

Saginaw

Things to do in Saginaw, Michigan

In Saginaw, catch a nationally known concert, theater production and more at The Dow Event Center, the premiere entertainment venue of the tri-cities. The Dow features a 2,200-seat theater with an orchestra pit, a 7,300-seat arena and a connecting banquet hall. It is also home to the city’s minor league hockey team, the Saginaw Spirit, where you can see the players before they make it big in the NHL. You can also catch a concert, film or play at the Temple Theatre, which opened in 1927 and is a 1,750-seat theater with a Barton organ that rises from the pit.

Saginaw is also full of culture. You can take in an exhibit at Saginaw Valley State University’s Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum, or learn about Saginaw’s origins at the Castle Museum of Saginaw County History, which features lectures, movies, historic area trolley rides and walks, boat tours and other special events. Housed in a historic lumber-era home, the Saginaw Art Museum features touring art exhibits, as well as exhibits from its own permanent collection.

If you have any energy left after all that shopping, visit the butterfly house and reptile sanctuary at the Wilderness Trails Zoo, or head over to the Birch Run Expo Center, which hosts everything from nationally known performers to Deer Widows Weekend events to trade shows.
